Meet your Anesthesiologist
Anoosh Javaherian, MD
I am a father and a Physician Anesthesiologist board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, spending my working life keeping children safe under anesthesia during their dental care. Beverly Hills Pediatric Anesthesia is the pediatric anesthesia practice of Anoosh Javaherian, MD.
Training and career
Training and experience
I graduated from UCLA with honors in Biology. I went on to receive my Doctor of Medicine from the Keck School of Medicine of USC, and subsequently finished a Surgical Internship followed by Anesthesiology Residency at LAC+USC County Medical Center. Through this residency I also trained at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, treating many children as young as just a few days old.
I spent the years after residency as an Anesthesiologist staff clinician at UCLA West Valley Hospital and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Western University of Health Sciences, where I taught medical students.
Today I work full time as an office-based Anesthesiologist, helping both children and adults undergo dental care they could otherwise not receive without anesthesia. I am dedicated to collaborating with, educating, and supporting other Anesthesiologists to ensure the safety of all children.
Behind the stethoscope
Father and Physician.
- A new fatherAs a new father, my outlook on life has changed quite a bit. While I continuously improve my skills and my methods for medically treating children, I now understand what a difficult process this may be from the parent’s perspective.
This is why I have revamped my entire practice to make this process as easy and simple as possible for the child and the parent. Entire conversations are held in advance, walking you through the steps we take for your child’s safety and what to expect on the day of the treatment. Children often take emotional cues from their parents, so helping you know what to expect can make the day easier for your child. For this reason, we are in constant communication to make sure all of your questions are answered and you have as much peace of mind about the anesthesia as possible.
From pre-anesthesia sedation, to reducing any memory your child might have of falling asleep, to selecting the breathing tube that will cause the least discomfort once they are home, every step of the process has been thought through and is constantly re-evaluated.
- Why pediatric dental anesthesiaAs an uncle of nine, I saw first hand how difficult it is on families when a child has dental problems that cannot be treated awake. When I left hospital-based anesthesia, I set out to bring medical-level care and expertise into the dental office — for the safety of the children, and for the peace of mind of their parents.
- Outside workAt home I garden and plant fruit trees — orange, guava, avocado, quince and pomegranate so far — do woodwork to keep up my dexterity, and find DIY projects around the house.
Dental Board of California
Appointed to evaluate other providers.
The Dental Board of California conducts regular onsite inspections and evaluations of anesthesia permit holders and their facilities, equipment, personnel and procedures. I am one of the evaluators the Board appoints to carry out that examination.
-
What the role involves
Attending another dentist or Anesthesiologist’s facility on behalf of the Dental Board and independently evaluating the provider, facility, equipment, personnel and procedures. I observe anesthesia care, review equipment, emergency drugs and records, and recommend a pass/fail grade to the Board.
-
Why it matters to a parent
While this is not an endorsement from the Dental Board, it is a reassuring fact that the person anesthetizing your child meets the standard other providers are measured against.
-
Why it matters to a dental office
The standard you are being held to is the standard I apply for a living. Having done many onsite inspections, I have also adopted the best equipment and methods to safely anesthetize children in an office setting.
